Putting up

Wintertime has its own seasonal events, some nicer than others.
The more pleasant stuff I put up with includes...

...local hand-picked persimmons.

A little something to go with 5 pounds of those fresh persimmons? Add 1/4 tsp ascorbic acid per pint.

Yield: 5 pints brandied persimmons.

20% tithed to the tree's owner.

...and local hand-picked kumquats. Really big ones! at least twice the size of those at the market.

Lots of time and patience is needed to slice and seed them. I let them soak for at least a day, then add lots of sugar.

Yield: 10C marmalade.

30% tithed to the tree's owner and family.

Fall warp x 4

Using an initial warp, two pieces were made. An additional warp was tied on to create a third piece, then yet another warp was tied on to make a fourth piece. Each piece off the loom was a little more than 2 yds long, excluding about 6" fringe each end.

From the top:
Piece 2 (wet-finished),
Piece 1 (wet-finished),
Piece 4 (not yet wet-finished),
Piece 3 (not yet wet-finished).

From the top:
Piece 1 (same as previous photo),
Piece 2 (same as previous photo),
Piece 4 (wet-finished),
Piece 3 (wet-finished).

Warp & weft: 45/55 silk/merino, 1090yd/100g, 30g-32g weft per piece
12d-reed, approx 14ppi.

Order, chaos, order

I thought this was going so smoothly. Then I saw that I didn't increase for the hips. And then I saw something else that happened much MUCH earlier. So I had no other choice.

I resumed knitting but there's now a new issue I discovered in the area I resurrected. I cannot write about this now. It is sitting in the project bag in a corner of my room, and I look at it occasionally, wondering how to solve the problem.

==
Here's a new venture! Double weave that makes doubled cloth.
The advice is to warp the loom back to front, but I chose to warp front to back.

Data: sock yarn, 2/dent, 15d reed. It takes twice as long to warp because the number of ends is 2x - it being a double weave and all. (Obvious? but I need to tell myself these things.)
Observations: the yarn is very sticky, especially with the close spacing. Turning the back beam while warping puts alot of tension on the fiber, and is likely why warping back to front was advised. High tension is needed during weaving so that the yarns can pass by each other in the same dent.

Note

When blusters create flurries it's very satisfying when order and sanity prevails. Will it change? Don't let the outcome be dependent on that answer. Let the turbulence pass.

When darts are tossed, what do bystanders do? Who stands with the target to offer support and protection? Who stands aside, watches, and then critiques the episode?

Numbers

Something about the way dates are noted gets my attention:
1/3/13
01/03/13
etc

It could be a function of the US (above) or EU (below) style as well:
3/1/13
03/01/13
etc

2012 was a banner year.
1/2/12
2/1/12
etc

2011 was a year that generated binary patterns.

I have a notebook filled with them.
